Board and Batten Steel Siding in Knox City & Northeast Missouri

The siding profile we do is board and batten — wide vertical boards with a narrower batten covering the gap between them, the look that reads as a barn or a farmhouse from a hundred yards off. We do it in steel, which means it does not rot, does not warp, does not need painting, and takes the same wind and hail that beats up other siding in this part of Missouri.
If you are looking at siding for a home or a farm building and you want something that actually lasts in this climate, this page is the plain version of where board and batten steel siding works, how we install it, and how it pairs with a metal roof.
How We Install Board and Batten Steel Siding
We start with the wall — checking that the sheathing and framing are sound, because siding over a rotten wall is the same mistake as a roof over a rotten deck. We lay a weather barrier over the wall, then set the panels.
The panels run vertically, which is what gives board and batten its look. We fasten the panels to the framing, set the battens over the joints, and trim out the corners, windows, and doors. Because the steel is what it is, we can run long lengths without the splices and seams that vinyl and fiber cement siding need every few feet.
We finish the details — the corner trim, the J-channel around windows and doors, the flashing at the base — and we check that the wall is properly sealed at every penetration. The job is done when it looks right and sheds water right, not just when the last panel is up.
Where Board and Batten Steel Siding Works
Board and batten steel siding is a good fit for homes and farm buildings across northeast Missouri — new construction and re-siding both. It is especially at home on a farmhouse, a barn, a shop, or any building where the vertical-line look is what you want.
It pairs naturally with a standing seam metal roof — steel on the roof, steel on the walls, the same material family and the same resistance to wind, hail, and weather. Done together, the roof and the siding read as one building, and neither one is the weak spot.
Where It Is Not the Right Siding
If what you want is a horizontal lap siding look, board and batten is vertical and will not give you that — it is a different profile, and we do not pretend it is something it is not. And if the wall underneath has structural problems, the siding has to wait for the wall to be fixed, same as a roof waits for the deck.
We will tell you what we see when we look at the building. If board and batten steel is not the right answer for what you are trying to do, we will say so.
What Drives the Cost of Steel Siding
The cost moves with the square footage of wall, the number of corners, windows, and doors (each one is trim and detail work), the height of the walls, and the panel profile. Tear-off of old siding, if there is any, adds to it. We do not quote a number on a website — we come look at the building and give you a written quote.

Board and Batten Steel Siding — Common Questions
Is board and batten the only siding profile you do?
Board and batten is the siding profile we do. It is the vertical-board-with-batten look that suits farms and homes in this area. If you want a different profile, we are not the right call for that job.
Will steel siding dent in hail?
It can dent in a hard hail storm, the same as a steel roof. But it does not crack, rot, or warp the way wood, vinyl, and fiber cement do, and a dent does not make it fail.
Does it need painting?
No. The color is baked into the steel at the coil, so it does not need painting and will not peel the way painted wood or fiber cement does.
Can you do the siding and the roof together?
Yes, and they pair well — steel on the roof, steel on the walls, the same resistance to the weather. We can quote them together or separately, whichever you want.
Can it go over my existing siding?
Sometimes, depending on what is there and the condition of the wall underneath. We will tell you when we look whether the existing siding can stay or has to come off.
