FAQ

Metal Roofing Questions, Answered Straight

The questions we hear most from homeowners comparing roofers in northeast Missouri.

Do you make the metal panels on site?

Yes. We bring portable roll formers to your property and form every panel from raw steel coil right there. Panels run in one continuous piece from ridge to eave with no lap seams, there's no shipping damage, and there's no factory lead time. See our on-site roll forming service for more.

Can you put a metal roof over my existing shingles?

In most cases, yes, if you have one layer of sound shingles and the roof deck is in good shape. We'll confirm when we look at the roof. If there are two layers or the deck is bad, the old roof has to come off first.

Is a metal roof loud in the rain?

A modern standing seam metal roof is installed over solid decking and underlayment, the same roof deck an asphalt shingle roof sits on. With that deck and a finished attic or insulation below, most homeowners don't notice more overhead noise than with shingles. One of our customers, Donna Strong, said she did not experience more overhead noise than with her previous asphalt shingle roof. Read more on our Why Metal page.

Will a metal roof affect my cell phone or TV reception?

No. A metal roof does not block cell phone reception. Your phone signal comes from towers and passes through walls and windows the same way it always has. Customer Donna Strong reported she gets great cell phone reception after her metal roof was installed.

How long does a metal roof last?

A standing seam steel roof outlasts asphalt shingles by a wide margin. Steel doesn't dry out, curl, or lose granules. The actual lifespan depends on the install, the pitch, and how well the roof is vented, so we don't quote a specific number of years. It's the last roof most homeowners put on a house.

How much does a metal roof cost?

Every roof is different, so we don't quote a price on a website. The cost depends on roof size and complexity, the number of valleys and penetrations, pitch, whether the old roof needs to come off, the panel profile, and trim. We come look at your roof and give you a written quote. See our What It Costs page for the full breakdown.

Do you help with insurance claims for storm damage?

We document storm and wind damage thoroughly so you have what you need for your insurance claim. We can't file the claim for you, but we'll walk you through what we found and provide the documentation your adjuster will want to see.

How long until you can start my roof?

Because we roll-form panels on site, there's no factory lead time to wait on. Once we've quoted the job and you're on the schedule, we bring the roll former and the steel coil to your property. Call us at (660) 341-4823 for current scheduling.

What areas do you serve?

We're based in Knox City, Missouri and travel roughly a 50-mile radius across northeast Missouri, including Kirksville, Macon, Hannibal, Edina, Memphis, Canton, La Grange, Palmyra, Monroe City, Shelbina, Kahoka, La Plata, Lancaster, Lewistown, Monticello and Shelbyville. See our Service Areas page.

Does Missouri require roofing contractors to be licensed?

No. Missouri does not license roofing contractors at the state level. There is no license number to look up. We recommend asking any roofer for proof of insurance, references from recent jobs, and a written quote that spells out what's included. Read more on our About page.
